Why Should You Clean Up Facebook?

690…that’s how many Facebook “friends” I have…. Who are these people? I do NOT talk to 690 people, ever!

Were these people from my past that I no longer relate to? We went about our lives in different paths ions ago but they must be my friend? Are these people in my life now? Do I follow them on Facebook so I don’t feel like I have to communicate in person?

I’m not sure social media is a blessing. I kinda see it as a bit of a curse. We have gotten lazy with face to face interactions. Is our first instinct to call someone? Nope! Our first instinct is to send them a Facebook message. This isn’t terrible but it also isn’t personal. I don’t think I even have the phone numbers to many of my Facebook “friends” anymore.

The next thing to consider, do you want all of these 690 people to see photos of your children? Do they need to see your day to day? Do they care to see your day to day? Do you care to see theirs?

So many things to consider with privacy and whether or not these people are truly friends. Is there another way to stay connected without all 690 seeing your day to day interactions?

I see the benefit of social media in the marketing aspect. You sell something and the more people you are friends with, the higher your chances of selling your items are. If they are “friends” they would maybe be more likely to purchase from you. I see that and I’ve been an active part of that. I would much rather help support my friends with their home businesses than retail giants.

I have considered weeding out the numbers of my “friends”. Make contact and see if I get responses. If not, maybe we aren’t really “friends” after all? 690 just seems like an astounding number to me. How many “friends” do you have currently? What are your thoughts on that outstanding number?
