Something we all may have been able to tap into during the pandemic (and in my case, a broken leg) is our creative sides! We might have discovered a love of cooking, drawing, painting, or even writing. One of my favorite things to do, BC19 (before Covid-19, haha!) was attend those paint and sip nights. Just be careful not to mix up your paint cup with your drink cup. Yeah, I did that.
I have no artistic ability, whatsoever. In fact, when I was in college deciding if I wanted to be an interior designer, I dropped out of my drawing class due to the frustration of trying to draw the wrinkles on an old boot! I figured I just didn’t have the natural, born talent of drawing. Or, in attempt to change perspective in a more positive light; maybe I just wasn’t taught well. Or maybe, I just wasn’t ready. Whatever the case may be; I have discovered an immense love for painting.
It fascinated me because within this room were adults (and sometimes kids) of all different levels and talents painting the same thing, and each one turned out unique. Art is truly an expression of ourselves, and I love that. So, don’t ever become discouraged. If it makes you happy, do it!
I missed being able to let that creative outlet flow and recently discovered Artist’s Palette Durham on YouTube. They host free, live YouTube or some paid Zoom events weekly and the best part is they are all recorded so you can have a paint night whenever you wish! Grab some friends and wine if you wish, or make it a kid’s party, and paint! I gathered supplies from my local art store, but there are also some great deals at Amazon, Michael’s, and Hobby Lobby. I must commend the Artist’s teaching us at Artist’s Palette Durham. I have learned so many techniques, and more about mixing paints and types of brushes than I ever have! They really break it down and help even the most novice of painter’s understand.
If you try one of their classes, I’d love to see your paintings here! Let me know if you have any questions. Go out and create!
