In the wake of all these school closings, parents are frantic wondering how they are going to entertain their kids. Those of us that homeschool, this is our day to day so here are some resources from a homeschool mom to those of you that will have at least two weeks to school your child at home.
These resources are all free or have a free version so try them out and enjoy!
#1: 12 Famous Museums offer FREE virtual tours. Resource for all ages.
#2: Your local library has a virtual audiobook service. If you are St. Louis County, yours is Overdrive. This is a great option for any age.
#3: Khan Academy is a free school at home curriculum. We use this for science this year for our 7th grader and love it! This included courses for all ages. MIT has taken after them and offers short video courses.
#4: One Community offers free lesson plans for you to do any core subjects with your kids at home. This could be modified for any age child.
#5: E-Learning brings free and fun learning to kids at home. Recommended for ages 5-12.
#6: Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool has all the core subjects for your kids. This covers all age groups.
#7: Starfall is a fun language and math website using education and games for Pre-k through 3rd grade.
#8: PBS Kids is a great resource for parents and kids with educational content. Suggested age is 2-8.
#9: Education.com has resources for Pre-k through 5th grade.
#10: Nickelodeon has a fun learning program recommended for ages 4-12.
#11: Fun Brain has books and gaming resources for kids. This was the original site where Diary of a Wimpy Kid was posted before it was published as a book! This is good for all ages.
#12: ZyZyGy is an educational game for older kids.
#13: Here is a listing of a ton of free audiobooks and e-books. Most are MP3 and for all ages.
#14: CK12 has STEM courses for all ages.
#15: International Children’s Digital Library has books for ages 3-13.
#16: Librovox has free public domain e-books for all ages.
#17: Project Gutenberg has a ton of free audiobooks for all ages.
#18: Physics Central has a list of free science based comic books for that comic book lover in your house!
#19: Duolingo has tons of different languages free for the learning. We use this as well and my kids have learned Spanish and Japanese so far! If you don’t find what you are looking for there, try here.
#20: Amazon Prime and Netflix have a ton of educational shows you can try out. We really like Brain Games and Myth Busters for the whole family.
#21: NeoK12 has educational games and videos for all ages.
#22: The Kid Should See This is a blog full of educational videos for all ages.
#23: Ted-Ed is built from the Ted Talks idea and has educational videos and book read alongs for all ages.
#24: Google Arts is a great resources for the art lover in your household. Probably best for middle and high schoolers.
#25: 50 States is a great way to learn and reinforce the 50 US states with your child.
#26: Crash Course is a You Tube channel with educational videos for all ages.
#27: Ben’s Guide has US government resources for all ages.
#28: Liberty Kids is a You Tube channel with animated history lessons for all ages.
#29: Lit2Go audiobooks have books available for all ages.
#30: AAA Math is math resources for K through 12th grade.
#31: Shmoop has comical videos related to core subjects.
#32: Classics for Kids has music related educational resources for any age.
#33: Teaching Children Philosophy has different courses for kids.
#34: 100,000 Stars has space information for kids. Really cool resource.
#35: Ask An Astronomer answers commonly asked questions about the universe.
#36: Built By Kids encourages kids to courageously build things themselves with step-by-step projects. All ages included.
#37: Cells Alive has educational videos and games to learn about science. Great for most ages.
#38: Thought Co. Activities for Kids has fun science projects you can do with your kids at home. Good for any age.
#39: NASA has a kids educational program for all ages.
#40: The Paleontology Portal has great resources for any child interested in this topic.
#41: Physics To Go is a resources to explore physics on your own. Have things for all ages.
#42: Science Kids has fun experiments you can do at home. Good for most ages.
#43: Teach Engineering has lessons with suggested age listed.
#44: Codecademy is a free coding resource for older kids.
#45: Library of Congress has a ton of educational articles for most ages. You can search by topic and age.
#46: Brain POP is an app that features a different educational video each day. Check it out, it’s cool!
#47: Minute Physics is a You Tube channel with physics videos.
#48: Timetoast has a virtual timeline creator for the older child that would be interested in making a timeline for their lineage or history in general.
#49: SplashLearn has free math lessons for K through 5th grades.
#50: Smarty Games has educational games for grades K through 8.
