So, I had the worst headache of all time for the past two days. It is finally gone today and I feel like a human again. I have a history of migraines but this was the daddy of all migraines. Never in my life have I experiences anything like this…well…childbirth but you get my jist. This is the reason I have been silent on here for a few days.
Of course, I have been researching it all morning so you get to benefit from the knowledge I gained. These headaches are called hormonal migraines. Who knew that was a thing?! Well, apparently it is for only about 10% of women who have a history of migraines. Lucky me, right!
It is thought to be caused by the withdrawal of oestrogen and the release of prostaglandin early in menstruation. Hormones are no joke guys! I’ve gotten migraines before close to the time but never like this at the beginning of it. It was so weird. So then I thought, is it my age? From what I found, no. It is just a random fluctuation of hormones that can occur from time to time.
My next thought is, “Am I going to be dealing with this monthly from now on?” There is no data to support or refute this that I could find. Sounds like it is hit or miss. How weird is that? Here is your condition but we don’t know much about it. Very interesting to me.
Medical suggestions are anti-inflammatory meds like Mefenamic Acid (NSAID) such as Naproxen (Aleve) or Tylenol for more mild cases. What did I do? Generally, I believe the body needs time to heal itself with no help. By day 2 with no relief, I had enough! I pulled out almost all the stops. I took a hot shower with essential oils, swabbed peppermint oil all over my head, took my Juice Plus and zinc, drank a ton of water and took 2 regular strength Tylenol. When I woke up, it was gone. I don’t know if it is all that I did that made it go away or if the hormones regulated but whatever it was, the headache is gone. For that, I am so thankful!
Do you suffer from migraines? Have you ever had one last multiple days? How did/do you handle them? Comment here!
