Why do you think we should know?

When did publicizing your medical decisions to the entire world become the norm? Why would you want your friends and enemies alike to know such an intimate detail about yourself?

All decisions you make will have repercussions whether for the positive or negative. The decision you make and publicize today may seem like the best idea but tomorrow you may live to regret it. When you publicize your decisions, it may, in the future become embarrassing to have gone public with.

Never before have I seen such a violation of a persons intimate life decisions as the publicizing of vaccinations cards. No other vaccination previously has been given a card to brag over in such a way. Never before has a vaccination been used to harass those that choose not to receive it. It has always been a personal choice and there was little to no shaming or blaming if a person chose not to receive a given vaccination.

There are many reasons that a person may choose not to receive any given vaccination. There are some that believe the body is designed to fight virus and they don’t feel they should supplement or inhibit the ability of it to do so. Some have an allergy or aversion to an ingredient or an immune issue that would make a vaccination more of a life threat then the risk of contracting the virus itself. Some may have already contracted the virus and know the body has natural immunity which is better than any artificial immunity could provide. Still others feel it is their obligation to society to receive it.

Why the shame blame game though? What right does any one person have to criticize or downplay the intimate decisions of others? What if instead we just let each person make their decisions and respect them for self-educating and deciding the outcome of their own life?

This particular vaccination changes in its efficacy daily it seems. So little is known about it but those that support it believe that it has possibly 90% protection. So those receiving the vaccine should have little to no fear, worries or need to shame those that choose otherwise. Those that choose not to receive it have made their best educated decision. If they have not taken the time to educate, shaming them is not going to convince them for what you stand for. It will likely push them further in the other direction.

The internet is a very public avenue and seems a strange place to publicize something that could alter your health and cause such animosity among “friends”. You want the vaccine? More power to you! You don’t want the vaccine? Great! I don’t want to know either way. You shouldn’t want to judge (or be judged by) another over such personal decisions in life. Nor should you want friends that would choose you or not over one singular aspect of your life.

I don’t care whether or not you vaccinate but how do you feel about the flashing of cards like a trophy? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
