Do you ever look back on the old days and think, man was I naive? Let me tell you that I do! I remember as a young adult in college my ideals for life.
I remember saying, I will NEVER be one of those people that quit their jobs and have kids. Fifteen years and four kids later, I am happily a stay at home mom. Do I wish I wasn’t? NO!
I remember saying, I will NEVER be a soccer mom and drive a mini van. Fifteen years and four kids later, I am a proud owner of a Kia Sedona that seats eight! I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I remember looking at a struggling mom in the shopping mall and saying, I would NEVER allow my children to act like that…. Fifteen years and four kids later, I have left a cart in the grocery store and hauled out a child in the midst of a temper tantrum and took his little butt home.
See, there are some things that are inevitable, some things that are bound to happen and some things that are just destiny. In my case, I NEVER means “give it time, Honey”.
Looking back, I am so happy things happened the way they did. I am happy to not be working and have the ability to watch my kids learn and grow. It is in these special times that I learn how different they are. There are so many special things about them that makes them unique individuals.
The mini van has hauled a number of laughing, excited kids here and there with awesome memories made. The things to treasure in life are not looking the coolest but enjoying life each day and making the most of it.
Struggling moms, I see you! I know what you are going through as I have experienced it first hand. Forget about those nay sayers that threaten your integrity. Those little people have a mind of their own and sometimes don’t do as we have expected of them. There are some days that surviving is all you can do. Sweep up that child that is having a bad day and bring him home. Bring him to the one place that you can safely have a face to face and let him know you love him, not necessarily his behavior. Tomorrow is a new day, wait and watch.
